The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has been mistakenly targeted by enraged fans following the US ABC’s decision to suspend Trump critic Jimmy Kimmel’s late night talk show.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has been bombarded with irate emails – but it’s not for anything the local broadcaster did.
Instead, ABC in Australia has been mistakenly targeted by furious Jimmy Kimmel fans, upset over his recent suspension in the United States.
The drama began last week when Kimmel, during his opening monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live! made controversial remarks about the Charlie Kirk assassination and the suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson.

This commentary stirred backlash, resulting in the US ABC Network – a completely separate entity from Australia’s public broadcaster – suspending Kimmel’s show.
Confused viewers, however, misdirected their anger at ABC in Australia.

“I will NEVER watch ABC again — Free speech is gone. Go Jimmy Kimmel!” one fan wrote.
Another email read: “What you did to Jimmy Kimmel is against the Constitution. I will be boycotting ABC. When you bend your knees to the president, you’ve gone too far. America is not happy with ABC.”
A third added: “I will contact and boycott ALL business that sponsor ABC’s shows!”

The mix-up arose because ABC Australia and the US network share the same acronym, despite being entirely unaffiliated.
The Australian broadcaster is a public service entity, while the American ABC is a commercial arm owned by Disney.
Kirk was fatally shot on September 10 during a debate at Utah Valley University. Following the incident, Kimmel addressed the shooting on air, alleging that conservative forces were attempting to downplay the shooter’s connections to the far-right.

“The MAGA gang is desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel remarked.
Just hours before the suspension was announced, Kimmel was reportedly informed by Disney that his show was being pulled.
Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect, was raised in a Republican household and lived with his transgender partner at the time of the shooting.
Reports indicate he had recently grown more politically active.
With concerns mounting that Kimmel’s remarks could further inflame the divide between liberal and conservative audiences, Disney opted to suspend the show indefinitely.
