Robert Irwin and Witney Carson have sent each other adorable, and teary messages to each other ahead of the Dancing With The Stars grand finale. It’s clear the two formed a very close bond since meeting just a few months ago, and the pair has enjoyed a lot of success on the show so far.

But the biggest thing to come out of it is their friendship, with the 21-year-old Aussie star describing the professional dancer as a protective “big sister”. With only a few days left before their final performances on the Dancing With The Stars stage (which will be Wednesday for Aussies), they decided to wish each other well.

“Witney, we made it to the finale, I can’t believe it,” Robert he said.

“At the start of this whole process, I had no idea what to expect. I knew this was a dream, I knew that I was going to give this everything, but it felt impossible, it felt like this huge mountain to climb.

“But as soon as I opened the door and I saw that you were going to be my partner, I felt instantly safe and supported and protected, and I felt that through this entire journey.”

He said Witney has made him a “better person in so many ways” and he thanked her for being such a good dance partner, “my closest ally and my best friend”.

Witney was trying her best to hold back her tears when she started her message to Robert.

“I’ve already been crying all day,” she said.

“I’m so proud of you, and you really have impressed me so much with your maturity – I can’t even talk…

“With how you handle very situation in life, you’re just so passionate and positive, and you uplift everyone around you.

“It’s been such a special and memorable season for me, and I’ll never forget it, and just know that you’ll have another older sister to bug you and annoy you and tell you what to do in life.”

She finished by telling him that she was his “number one fan forever” and that she would always be there for him “no matter what”.

Bindi Irwin commented on the post with a crying emoji, saying they were the “most extraordinary team” and that they had “inspired us ALL”.

Other fans were devastated knowing this would be the last time they would see Robert and Witney dance.

“Do we really have to say goodbye to these two together this week?!” one fan questioned.

“Definitely the people’s champions!” another said. “You both have made this one of my absolutely favourite seasons ever and I’ve seen every single one.”

“Even if they don’t win (which I believe they will) – they’ve won our hearts forever,” a third added. “One of the most memorable couples in Dancing with the Stars history!”

Others said that Witney “needed this season” and that they were “so proud” of Robert.

It comes after Dancing With The Stars host Alfonso Ribeiro, who previously won the Mirrorball trophy with Witney when she was just 21 in 2014, revealed on the show’s official podcast that he believed that her second-place finish in 2018 with Milo Manheim “broke her”.

“They were incredible together,” he said. “I’m saying something that I’ve never really said to her, but I believe that season broke her slightly.

“Because I believe that she put everything into that season and was still so young, that to have not come home with the win created different emotions in her and a bit of separation between herself, the pro, and the show. Her celebrity and the show, right?

“It’s coming back with Robert.

“And I’m watching her give in a different way that she’s done over the last several years of herself and open up and allow people in.”
