Channel 10 has cancelled the station’s afternoon bulletin.

Hosted by veteran broadcaster Narelda Jacobs, the half-hour news program was launched with much hype at the start of 2024.

Staff were informed via email this week that the bulletin would not return in 2026 and were told that the move would have no impact on jobs at the network.

The internal memo also announced that Channel 10’s late bulletin, hosted by Ursula Heger, would be moved from 10.30 pm – 9.30 pm.

Martin White, Vice President of News for Paramount Australia, Channel 10’s owners, said that the changes were based on ‘research’ and making better use of ‘resources’.

In the email to staff, which was later obtained by Yahoo Lifestyle, White said cancelling the afternoon bulletin was ‘no reflection on the work our daytime team has done.’

White said: ‘This is based on putting more of our news and resources where – research tells us – there are more viewers.

‘We want our audience to see as much of your work as possible, on as many platforms as possible.

Elsewhere in the memo, White heaped praise on the network’s afternoon news team.

‘This is a recognition of the bulletin’s phenomenal success over the past 12 months.

‘Everyone involved has done a remarkable job, reimagining a show that is a core part of 10’s DNA,’ he said.

White also used the email to farewell Chris Bath, who is leaving the network after a decade.

‘She will always be a valued member of the 10 family,’ he said.

It comes after Georgie Tunny was announced as Bath’s replacement last week, as the new host of the station’s weekend news bulletin.

The former Project star, 34, will also continue as a reporter for the network’s current affairs show 10News+.

White said the network was ‘lucky’ to have a talent such as Tunny on the books.

‘Georgie is a great journo and presenter, and we’re lucky to have her at 10 News,’ he said.

‘She’ll do a brilliant job, helping us break down the big stories of the day for Australians every Saturday and Sunday, with her trademark warmth and down-to-earth demeanour.’

Tunny also took to Instagram on Wednesday to break the news to followers.

‘Bit of news (see what I’ve done there?),’ she wrote. ‘Excited to announce I’ll be Network Ten’s National Weekend Bulletin Host. Just call me Anchorman (but don’t).’

After Bath, 58, announced in October that she was leaving Channel Ten there was much speculation that Tunny would be her replacement.

According to insiders, Bath had become too expensive for the network.

A spokesperson at Ten told Daily Mail: ‘After seven years presenting the national weekend bulletin for 10 News, Chris Bath will present her last bulletin at the end of this year.’
