Robby and Mat have announced the tragic loss of their Block builder Dave’s wife, Carly.

The Block’s Robby and Mat have shared an emotional tribute following the loss of their builder Dave’s wife, Carly. The 45-year-old passed away following a battle with leukaemia, leaving behind a son, seven.

“Our hearts go out to our builder Dave and his son Gene, who tragically lost their beautiful wife and mum, Carly, to leukaemia this week,” they wrote on Instagram. “We’ll never forget the moment Dave got the call during Alfresco Week – our hearts sank for him.

“From that day on, Dave didn’t return to The Block, choosing to spend every precious moment by Carly’s side.”

Robby and Mat wrote that Carly left behind her “loving husband” and their son, Gene.

“We love you, mate,” they added. “Rest in peace, Carly.”

A GoFundMe was set up by Dave’s sister, Nell, to provide financial assistance for Dave, while he takes time off work to care for Gene.

It has so far raised over $92,000, with a target of $122,000.

Nell shared that Carly was only diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in May this year.

She went to the GP feeling exhausted and with unexplained bruising, and just hours later was admitted to hospital.

Within five days of her diagnosis, the cancer had spread from her bones to her bloodstream.

Carly commenced several rounds of high-dose chemotherapy treatments to fight it.

“This sudden diagnosis has shocked Carly and her family, completely disrupting their lives,” Nell wrote.

Following Carly’s passing, Nell shared an update to the page that read: “We are heartbroken to share that Carly died in the early morning of Saturday, 18 October in hospital in Geelong.

“Your support has made a massive difference to Dave and Carly over the last five months as they’ve been able to spend important time together and help Gene maintain some semblance of normality.”

Nell added that the fundraiser would remain open for anyone who wants to support Dave and Gene as they move forward.

“Dave hasn’t worked for some weeks while Carly was in hospital, and it may be some time before he can return to full time work.”

“Thank you all for your incredibly generosity, love and care,” she added, noting that Dave is so appreciative of the countless people who have helped him during his time of need.

The Block fans rally around Dave after loss of his wife

The Block fans have shared their condolences to Dave on social media, with one person writing, “This is a tragedy for Dave and his family nothing is more important than family, too young to leave, Carly is a beautiful looking young woman so very sad.”

“That is tragic,” said another. “Sending heartfelt condolences to Dave and Gene.”

Others described the loss as “absolutely heartbreaking” and described Leukemia as a “cruel disease”.
