Game 1 of the 2025 NBA Finals is in the books and while the action on the court may have been thrilling, the court itself left many fans complaining.

Through Game 1 of the Finals and in the hours since, fans have been complaining pretty loudly about how ugly the basketball court has looked. Many have been lamenting that the court isn’t as decorative as it used to be during the Finals.

Previous designs have ranged from a massive Larry O’Brien Trophy to a beautifully crafted NBA Finals logo. Now there doesn’t even appear to be any indication that it’s the Finals at all:

“I’ve always been upset that they removed the trophy in the middle but you guys can’t even have “The Finals” on the court anymore???? SMH,” one user wrote.

“Why do we get (a beautiful) court for the lame ass cup games, yet we don’t get any good courts for the Finals? No Finals logo? @nba make it make sense. The ads all over the place have diminished entertainment value,” wrote another.

“Still can’t believe the NBA got rid of the trophy at center court,” Kevin O’Connor wrote.

The NBA probably could have anticipated less fan interest in the NBA Finals given that it features two smaller market teams such as the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers rather than the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics or Los Angeles Lakers.

But they probably could have at least planned for a nicer look and feel to the game.

The court that they had at Paycom Center yesterday looked like a normal, everyday court design that you’d see in March, not the biggest series in the NBA.
