Rachel DeMita dismissed allegations of racist fan conduct at Saturday’s WNBA game between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky.

Following the season-opener matchup, the WNBA launched an investigation into “hateful fan comments” reportedly directed toward Angel Reese.

While the Sky star has faced constant racism since entering the league, the league didn’t detail any specific incident from Saturday. Reese and Caitlin Clark have both publicly supported the WNBA’s investigation.

On Tuesday, DeMita didn’t talk about the actual basketball from Indiana’s 93-58 win when saying that too many observers are keeping the focus away from basketball to manufacture a divide.

“It is getting harder and harder for me to actually enjoy the WNBA,” DeMita said. “And I really thought that we had turned a corner from last season because if you guys remember, last season was 95 percent drama, 5 percent basketball.”

During the game, Clark received a flagrant foul after hitting Reese on the arm. Reese got up from the ground to confront Clark, who walked away after Aliyah Boston separated the two second-year stars.

DeMita lamented that moment stealing the headlines from a Fever victory in which Clark registered 20 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds.

“And now, it is completely dominating the airwaves. Dominating ESPN,” DeMita said of Clark’s foul. “Every single story is about that specific play, which was a basketball play.”

DeMita said the WNBA is only investigating allegations of racist comments made against Reese because of “internet rumors.” She claimed nobody reported any incidents to security, and surely she had eyes and ears on every single fan at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

The former college basketball player resorted to needless hyperbole during a diatribe against the same sensationalized commentary she was perpetuating.

“And people are trying to get Caitlin Clark arrested. And I’m not lying to you,” DeMita lied. “Actually arrested because she was ‘stat-padding.’”

Moments after insisting people want a basketball player arrested for getting a rebound, DeMita argued that WNBA talking points are getting out of hand.

“The discourse has gotten insane, but the WNBA is paying attention to the discourse of these actually insane fans,” DeMita said. “Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.”
