General Hospital legend Tristan Rogers revealed he is battling cancer. 

On Thursday, the veteran actor’s friend and publicist, Anthony Turk, announced the news in a press release, obtained by Soap Opera Digest.

‘Beloved Emmy-winning actor Tristan Rogers, best known for his role as Robert Scorpio on the daytime drama, General Hospital, is sharing with fans that he has been diagnosed with cancer,’ Turk began.

He continued: ‘While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family.’

The star’s rep kindly requested ‘privacy and understanding’ as Rogers and his family face ‘the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis.’

‘They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from their friends and family. Tristan sends his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years,’ Turk concluded. ‘This support means more to him now than ever.’

Fans of the soap icon offered their condolences and prayers for the actor to make a speedy recovery on social media.

‘Heartbreakingly devastating news. #TristanRogers brought #RobertScorpio into our living rooms and made us fall in love. Prayers along with positive vibes being sent his way.,’ one X user wrote.

Another tweeted: ‘I thought something was off given his roast his voice was when we last saw him. Definitely keeping Tristan in my prayers. The show has already lost so many veteran actors over the past few years.’

‘Sending prayers his way! Us fans have been worried for a while now based on his last appearance on screen on GH! He definitely has lost a lot of weight and it was obvious he wasn’t well! Hopefully he can get into remission or cured so he can get back to GH! We miss & adore him!!’ a third shared.

Rogers is best known to daytime audiences as international spy-turned-Port Charles D.A. Robert Scorpio on General Hospital.

He has portrayed the character since 1980, and most recently, reprised his role on the series last year.

In 2018, he raved about returning to his beloved role and playing Robert, who he described as always having ‘kind of a glib approach to everything.’

‘He’s a bit of a smart-mouth,’ Rogers told Soap Opera Digest, at the time, of his character. ‘I’m working with a lot of different people … And I think the fans are going to like it.’

Rogers has also appeared on Young and Restless as Colin Atkinson and as Hunter Jones on Bold and Beautiful.

In 2020, Rogers won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Digital Drama Series for his role as Doc in Studio City.

Rogers, who was born in Melbourne, has been married to Teresa Parkerson since 1995.

The pair share a daughter, Sara Jane, 32, and a son, Cale, 29.

Rogers’ early acting roles were on Australian television and cameos in soap operas Bellbird, Number 96 (in 1974), and The Box (in 1975).

He also appeared in the police drama series The Link Men (1970), Barrier Reef, Division 4, and the 1976 miniseries Power Without Glory.

Other credits include voicing Jake in Walt Disney Pictures’ The Rescuers Down Under as well as Four Dimensions of Greta (1972), The Flesh and Blood Show (1972) and Sex Farm (1973).

Additionally, the star has done voice-over work representing restaurant chains like Outback Steakhouse, Reebok, Epson and others.
