This actress walked away from one of the hottest shows in television at the height of her career to focus on her personal life.

The actress, now 58, was part of the original ER cast along with George Clooney, Noah Wyle, Julianna Margulies, Eriq LaSalle and Anthony Edwards.

A photo of Sherry Stringfield, who starred as Dr. Susan Lewis, walked away from the Emmy winning show around 1997, three years into her five year contract has recently resurfaced on social media.

The 2022 picture appears to be of a now silver haired Stringfield with a young man thought to be her son Milo Joseph, 21.

Stringfield stated she wanted to be closer to her then-boyfriend who lived in New York City at the time.

The actress also said she was exhausted by the 18 hours days the cast and crew had to put in to get the highly rated drama on air.

‘You get a cold, they won’t let you off for a cold, then you get the flu, then you’re running a fever, you’re still coming in, you’re taking a nap on the gurneys in between scenes, you push, push, push, and finally your body says no f—ing way.’ Stringfield, who revealed she contracted pneumonia and viral meningitis explained to Entertainment Weekly in 1997.

It was the birth of her daughter, Phoebe, in March 2001, that made her realize that she needed the structure of a job.

She asked to return to ER about six months after she and her ex-husband Larry Joseph welcomed their first child.

‘Series television is either a nightmare or the best thing in the whole world. It really depends on, I think, where you are in your life,’ the Emmy nominee told the Chicago Tribune at the time.

‘It’s a lot easier for me this time having a family, because with a kid, you’re not going anywhere. So I was really starting to crave a schedule and I’m actually really enjoying that now.’

Although the producers had been confused and angry at her decision to leave the show, they welcomed her back with open arms.

‘I met with John Wells and I was like, “I’d love to come back.” And he said, “OK, we’d love to have you back.” That was it,’ she said of the rehiring process. ‘Then I moved, read the first script and showed up for work. It was really that easy.’
