Rachael Ray left her fans more concerned about her health than ever after sharing a new video over the week.

The 56-year-old cooking host appeared Sunday in an Instagram clip timed to coincide with Mother’s Day, but viewers were disturbed by her appearance in the post.

Rachael appeared to be speaking slowly and slurring some of her words as she leaned over a stove and cooked up a meal.

She made the concerning post after revealing late last year that she had suffered ‘a couple of bad falls’ that had forced her to scale back her ‘physical labor’ around her house.

In the video, the celebrity chef look back on a time early in her career when she said she could get by in New York on a food budget of just $40 per week.

‘When I lived in New York as a very young woman, I was very, very poor,’ she recalled as the video intercut with old photos of Rachael and her mother cooking together.

‘I didn’t want to bother my mother. I didn’t want her to feel scared for me,’ she continued. ‘So I would never ask for money. And I didn’t have any.’

Rachael reminded her fans that she later hosted a Food Network series in the early 2000s inspired by her restrictive food budget, though she was able to multiple the amount she could spend significantly.

‘Eventually, I did a show called $40 A Day,’ she said, emphasizing that that amount was her ‘budget for a whole week.’

‘I would buy a week’s food, and I only had $40,’ she said.

Rachael sounded as if she was overcome by emotion as she shared how ‘grateful’ she was to have been raised in a family that taught her how to live ‘for a long time’ on ‘dry beans, a few vegetables’ and very little meat.

‘I’m deeply grateful for it,’ she continued. ‘It’s changed my life. It’s made my life what it is.’

Although the kitchen star didn’t mention her mother by name in the video or her caption, she made it clear that the clip was a tribute to her mother Elsa Providenza Scuderi when she concluded with a photo of the two and text reading, ‘Happy Mother’s Day!’

In her caption, she wrote about her her mother taughter her ‘a lot more than how to cook.’

‘She showed me how to make something outta nothing — and how to do it with love. Whether it was dinner on the table or how to pick yourself up when things got tough… she just had it,’ Rachael wrote lovingly. ‘Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, mother figures, and caretakers out there — this one’s for you.’

She also urged her followers to share something their mothers had passed down to them.

While many fans shared their own experiences making ends meet on little money, several comments expressed concern over Rachael’s occasionally slurred speech.

Although Rachael admitted to having suffered ‘a couple bad falls’ while carrying wood on the debut episode of her I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead podcast in October 2024, she has otherwise avoided responding to concerns about her health from fans.
