And though the post has already garnered over 19 million likes, the singer kept her comments turned off, preventing anyone from chiming in about the happy news.

Many were surprised that Swift blocked friends and fans from reacting on such a huge announcement, especially given that the star is known for having a close relationship with her audience.

However, it’s a social media policy the hitmaker has followed for a number of years, previously explaining that it helps her ‘block some of the noise’ and ‘not need the validation.’

Swift’s strategic move to stamp out any nasty comments on the post — which has even inspired a reaction from President Donald Trump — comes as irate football fans called the engagement news the ‘worst thing that could happen to the NFL.’

That was an exaggeration, but the NFL’s Instagram account did have no fewer than four Kelce-Swift posts as of Tuesday afternoon on the East Coast.

For critics, that response from the league is further proof that the ubiquitous Kelce-Swift coverage of the last few years will only continue for the foreseeable future.

‘Can we just watch football?’ one fan asked. ‘Serious question.’

‘Nobody hopes he retires soon more then NFL fans,’ another added.

There were some ‘heart’ emojis and other attempts at humanity, but those messages were diminished by the wave of kvetching among football diehards.

Another added: ‘The world kept spinning.’

Even President Trump reacted to the news, telling reporters, ‘Well I wish them a lot of luck.’

‘I think he’s a great player and a great guy and I think she’s a terrific person so I wish them a lot of luck.’

Trump has previously notoriously trolled the legendary singer after she endorsed his political rival Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 elections.

Swift and Kelce announced their engagement on Tuesday via social media after a secret proposal two weeks ago.

The pop icon and the NFL star have been dating for two years.
