Angel Reese said what she said and she seems to be standing on it.

What LSU star Angel Reese brings to Chicago Sky

For all that’s been made of her rivalry with Caitlin Clark and last year’s comments about fans watching women’s basketball because of her too, the Chicago Sky forward shut down a reporter attempting to circle back to that statement on Tuesday.

“Yeah, negative things have probably been said about me, but honestly, I’ll take that, because look at where women’s basketball is,” Reese said at the time.

“I’ll take that bad guy role, and I’ll continue to take that on and be that for my teammates.”

“And I know I’ll go down in history,” she added. “I’ll look back in 20 years and be like, ‘Yeah, the reason why we’re watching women’s basketball is not just because of one person. It’s because of me, too.’ I want y’all to realize that.”

When a member of the media attempted to ask if she still feels that away heading into this season, Angel replied with an abrupt: “Next question.” — something WNBA fans actually appreciated on social media.

“Whatever her personal motivation for passing on this question… I think it’s a good move for her,” a user said. “She would be wise to build her brand minus the comparisons and links to Caitlin Clark.”

“Good answer!” another exclaimed. “They were gonna cry either way Angel. Hence this post. Next question! REAL fans watch the W for good hoops. Period!”

“She knew what the media was trying to do,” a fan asserted. “She did the right thing by not falling for it.”

“Y’all thirsty for negativity but that question was designed for her to say something negative about CC and she didn’t,” another person commented. “She smartly ignored the question.”

“Good job, Angel!” another user posted.

It seems like Reese is less interested in the off-court back-and-forth this season as she attempts to follow-up her record-setting rookie campaign with another strong performance in Year 2.

It’ll be fun to see how she and Clark interact though when the two meet in Saturday’s regular season opener at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
