They’re part of a rare group of celebrities who’ve defied the curse of doomed Hollywood romances by remaining married for nearly three decades.

And now Barbra Streisand‘s actor husband James Brolin is revealing the secrets to their long-lasting relationship.

Streisand, 82, and Brolin, 84, tied the knot in 1998 two years after being setup on a blind date.

During a recent appearance on the Today show, the Westworld star credited an essential bedroom item for keeping their marriage alive.

‘The best investment we’ve ever made is our mattress,’ he confessed Tuesday, as per PEOPLE. ‘And don’t misunderstand me. We’re both lazy. We love to sleep late.

‘We do a lot of our work on the phone, on paper, reading, right next to each other.’

Brolin also said that he and Streisand’s frequent walks together have helped keep them bonded.

‘You learn to take a walk. Both of us, not just me! I just think you gotta say, “Okay, take a deep breath, take a walk,”‘ Brolin told the Today hosts.

‘Because animals do the same thing, you know? Humans do it to each other, animals do it to each other.’

This isn’t the first time that Brolin has spoke on his and Streisand’s 30-year romance.

Back in 2022, he told PEOPLE that ‘patience’ is key to a successful marriage.

‘I think everybody needs to be a negotiator. Everybody needs to have patience and know when to take a walk,’ Brolin shared.

Brolin and Streisand were first introduced in July 1996 after being setup on a blind date by mutual pals at a dinner party.

Streisand recounted her and Brolin’s first date during a candid interview with W Magazine in 2016.

‘I met him at a dinner and expected a bearded mountain-man type, and he had cut off all his hair and was clean-shaved. I asked him, “Who screwed up your hair?”‘ she recalled.

Streisand said that that was the moment that Brolin fell in love with her.

‘He later told me that’s when he fell in love with me. My fella likes to hear the truth, which is unusual,’ the Oscar-winner shared.

She admitted during an appearance on The Tonight Show in 2021 that she was ‘so shy’ to meet Brolin.

‘We were set up as a blind date, and I was so shy that I came into the house and I went downstairs to be with the children and play with them until I had to sit down at the table,’ she told host Jimmy Fallon.

The couple made their first public appearance together in November 1996 and later walked the red carpet together at the 69th Academy Awards in March 1997.

Streisand and Brolin tied the knot on July 1, 1998 in the backyard of their home in Los Angeles, according to PEOPLE.

The A-list couple’s wedding was a star studded Hollywood event with guests including Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Marlon Brando, Quincy Jones, John Travolta and Kelly Preston.

Before finding love again with each other in their 50s, both Brolin and Streisand were not stranger to marriage.

Brolin was first married to Jane Cameron Agee, with the couple tying the knot 12 days after they first met in 1966.

The couple went on to welcome two sons, actor Josh Brolin, 57, and Jess Brolin, 53, and divorced in 1984.

Jane tragically died in a car accident on February 13, 1995, one day after their son’s 27th birthday.

Brolin then tied the knot with Jan Smithers in 1986, after meeting on the set of Batman.

The pair welcomed a daughter Molly, 38, and Jan later filed for divorce in 1995.

His third marriage was to Barbra and took place on July 1, 1998.

Previously, Barbra was married to the Long Goodbye star Elliott Gould in 1963 and welcomed a son, Jason Gould. The couple divorce in 1971.
